A portfolio of aerial photographs from the Landmannalaugar mountain range in the Highland region of Iceland. Taken from a helicopter, this series reveals the abstract and unique patterns revealed as the winter snow melts in early summer. These painterly images have a palette of white and shades of grey from snow stained volcanic ash. This is contrasted by varying hues of yellow and orange from the rhyolite rocks which geologically give the mountains their distinctive look. In one particular valley, Graenagil , there was a beautiful pattern of cyan and blue rock which contrasted well juxtaposed to the tones of orange. As the snow melts, small mountain rivers are formed and in the valleys I used the patterns from these to form the focal point to some of the compositions.
