The pages of Indian royal era are bejewelled with stories of maharajas and their entourages. While the maharajas were busy fighting battles the queens and begums played the roles of decision makers and some like Razia Sultan and Rani Laxmibai even fought battles and embraced martyrdom. Here is a tribute to the Steel Magnolias of yesteryears including the only lady Prime Minister of India- Indira Gandhi, Jijabhai Bhosle (mother of Shivaji), Begum Noor Jehan (favourite wife of Emperor Jehangir), Rani Laxmibai (the most iconic freedom fighter fighter of the 18567 mutiny) and Hazrat Mahal.
