PHOTOGRAPHIC PICTURES: AN IMAGETIC DECONSTRUCTION OF SÃ?O PAULO CITY IN BLACK AND WHITE The photographs in this project resemble pictures. These images represent urban and human subjects which deconstruct the city of São Paulo into black and white forms created by a cell phone camera. The simplicity of the lens, lack of zoom, and low camera resolution (three mega pixels) used in this project challenge the photographer to find creative solutions to the limitations of technology itself, which is still recent in the market. This project values the authenticity of artistic possibilities of the new photographic language, which has emerged from the use of digital cameras contained in cell phones. However, the idea here goes beyond the discussion on the democratization of digital cameras or the digital convergence issue, which is a trademark of new media, primarily multimedia. When photographing using a resource that allows the capture of basic images only of the real image, the author brings to light the old discussion on respecting the documental character of the photograph. The outcome of this project is innovative; the images offer little information on the photographed objects, leading the spectatorâ??s eyes to questioning the level of authenticity of the produced images. Thus, a dialogue between photography and other visual arts, as well as photography and painting, is established. It is worth highlighting comments from Susan Sontagâ??s book â??On Photographyâ??, where she mentions that Plato criticized painting because it creates both real (for being close to the real) and false (for resembling the real only) results at the same time. The photographic essay produced for the book â??Photographic Picturesâ?? highlights this dichotomy between false and real â?? an issue that has permeated the history of mankind, marked by a constant search for building images from several sources and techniques.
