Curator's Statement
Photography is a multi-faceted tool. It is simultaneously a form of artistic expression as it is a visual, historical document. Photographers allow us the opportunity through their imagery, to delve into parts of the world that we would/may not have the luxury,
opportunity and sometimes horror to see. Px3's Human Condition is a condensed, compassionate view of mankind through the lens of talented photographers charged with the task of documenting mankind.
Thousands of images were submitted from 48 countries. My litmus for making selections were based on the provocation of emotions when viewing the images. And the urge to share these images with the rest of the world. I made choices in imagery that could potentially reiterate that we are all connected, regardless of race, religion, creed or color through the daily rituals, and the shared experiences of loss and celebration. The emotions ranged from delight to sheer sadness, the subject matter experiencing a range of poverty and isolation to luxury and stardom. The challenge in selecting only a
small number of images from a large pool of excellence was extremely difficult, especially when the imagery was so compelling.
My collective desire for these images shown here are their ability inspire the need for hope, understanding and compassion. Thank you to the photographers whose images are vehicles for education, documentation and even transformation. Bravo to the winners who are recording the history of mankind. I am humbled by these images and endeavor to share them with you through this exhibition and subsequent publication.
It is a privilege and honor to curate and present this selection of winning images from PX3's Human Condition. - Hossein Farmani, Curator
